Despite the frightening name, this is one of the most common gynecological diseases. In fact, it is a benign tumor that occurs in the muscular layer of the uterus.

Most often, this disease comes already in adulthood, before menopause. The emerging nodes grow from a few millimeters to centimeters, but they can rapidly increase and even weigh kilograms. The reasons for the appearance of such formations are not completely clear, it is obvious that hormones are to blame for this.

For a long time, the nodes were removed surgically, in the most advanced cases - together with the uterus. But now there are also non-surgical methods.

In any case, the combination of the words "tumor" and "uterus" causes a woman to panic. Many myths are to blame for this, which incorrectly represent both the disease itself and the methods of its treatment.

Myoma of the uterus means a precancerous condition of an organ. Many people consider fibroids in general cancer. In fact, the disease has nothing to do with oncology, it does not cause cancer and is not even a factor contributing to its appearance. In the smooth muscle cells of the uterus, only leiomyosarcoma can be a malignant tumor. But among soft tissue tumors, this option is extremely rare. It occurs in the uterus not as a result of the development of uterine fibroids, but as an independent phenomenon. So, fibroids cannot cause cancer, there is no need to rush to perform a radical operation. But it is usually with the help of such a myth that doctors convince patients to remove the entire uterus. Fast-growing nodes should also not make you suspect cancer, this has been proven by numerous studies. This development is caused by changes in the nodes themselves and their edema. Therefore, the doctor's statement about the connection of fibroids with a possible oncological disease and the recommendation to radically solve the problem only says that it is necessary to change the specialist. True, we are still talking about malignant diseases of the muscles of the uterus. If there are no cancer cells in the myoma, then where is the guarantee that they will not appear in other parts of the organ - in the mucous membrane or the neck? But measures for the prevention and early detection of cancer cells are well known and available. And these processes are not associated with myoma, so you should not be afraid of the diagnosis.

Myoma of the uterus appears due to hormones, it is necessary to be tested on time for them. Usually, when examining a woman with uterine fibroids, hormones are not tested. Sometimes a doctor may prescribe such a study, hoping that it will help him understand the causes of education and the choice of subsequent treatment. However, myoma is a local pathology of the muscular membrane of the uterus. Each node begins to grow due to damage to one cell. And hormones in no way affect the appearance of a defect and the development of nodes. A woman with a normal cycle of menstruation can have a fibroid, even with this disease, it is possible to become pregnant and give birth. And the choice of treatment methods is in no way determined by the level of hormones. So there is no need for such research. If the doctor imposes it, then he simply does not understand the nature of the disease. Will he then be able to find the right treatment?

With myoma, scraping (cleaning) should be done immediately. This procedure is not suitable for all patients with uterine fibroids. For curettage of the uterine cavity, a number of indications must be observed. These are polyps found with the help of ultrasound, incomprehensible uterine bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia, complaints of spotting between periods. In all other cases, when a woman has normal menstruation, when the endometrium is clearly visible on ultrasound and it is without pathological changes, it is enough to conduct an aspiration biopsy. This procedure is painless, carried out without anesthesia on an outpatient basis. She, like curettage, can provide the necessary information about the state of the uterine mucosa. But such methods, in any case, will not tell anything about the state of the nodes, as patients often explain. The study is required to exclude the pathology of the mucous membrane. Otherwise, it will not be possible to carry out such a treatment that would preserve the entire organ.

Myoma of the uterus must be actively treated. If uterine fibroids are not accompanied by unpleasant symptoms, and the woman is not going to give birth, then there is no need to treat her. Not all nodes grow constantly during the reproductive period. Some may stop in their development or progress slowly. If such formations do not deform the uterine cavity and do not affect a woman's life in any way, then simply observing them is enough. But the patient herself may not understand that something unusual is happening to her - heavy bleeding during menstruation, pressure on the bladder, abdominal growth. So in any case, it is necessary to regularly undergo an examination by a gynecologist, do an ultrasound scan, and monitor the level of hemoglobin. Its fall, for example, may indicate an incorrect estimate of blood volume during menstruation. Growth of the abdomen or waist can be considered weight gain, not the growth of myoma nodes. You should not agree to an operation if there are no clear symptoms of the disease.

Even a small fibroid must be removed. Doctors recommend removing fibroids simply for prevention. But it is impossible to predict how these nodes will grow and the disease will develop. Therefore, there is no need for surgical interventions, including the removal of the whole uterus. The only exception is the patient's unwillingness to have children ever. When choosing methods for treating an organ, a doctor cannot rely on his only assumptions about the prospects of illness or inaction. Fibroids are known to be unpredictable in terms of growth. The disease should be assessed in its dynamics, taking into account the patient's age, her complaints, plans to become pregnant in the future. Myoma of the uterus in menopause will pass, that is, it has its logical end. The uterus should not be considered only as an organ for embroidering children. It plays an important role by participating in various processes in the body. Thanks to the uterus, a full sexual life occurs, it forms an orgasm. Without this organ, the risk of cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders will increase. This is convincingly evidenced by hundreds of studies. Some gynecologists forget about this, persuading the patient to radically solve the problem.

Removing the uterus is a simple and quick solution to the problem. Removing this organ is not at all a simple and safe operation that will not affect the body in any way. It cannot be considered as the main treatment for uterine fibroids. Even the simplest surgical intervention can have serious consequences, up to and including death. That is why it is difficult to predict the occurrence of possible complications. Competent surgeons say that the best operation is the one that was avoided. Intervention should be carried out only on strict indications and when there is no way to do without it, if there is a direct threat to the patient's life or its quality. If it remains possible to save the uterus, it is better to do so. In domestic medicine, after the diagnosis of uterine fibroids is made, the entire organ is most often removed without offering treatment options. Doctors instill a myth about the safety of removing the uterus, assuring that the body does not really need it. Frightened by the diagnosis, the patients agree to anything to avoid dire consequences. But what will happen to a woman after the removal of the uterus with or without appendages is known. The risk of developing cardiovascular diseases will increase, the endocrine system will malfunction, weight will begin to grow, sex will worsen, and the risks of malignant tumors will increase. It is also worth remembering about failures in the nervous system, mood swings, and loss of motivation. And such changes will not appear immediately after the operation, but gradually, over several years. Patients do not even associate these symptoms with previous surgery, attributing them to other diseases. Gynecologists also do not see these women, believing that they have no problems. Removal of the uterus cannot be considered the only possible and simple method of treating fibroids. This is the last step that should only be taken in the most extreme cases. You should be afraid of a doctor who considers the operation simple, giving positive statistics of successful outcomes without complications.

The myoma needs to be cut out. If a woman does not plan pregnancy soon, then removing myomas is absolutely pointless. Currently, there is a good alternative - uterine artery embolization, or UAE. Removing the nodes from the uterus is called myomectomy. In most cases, such an operation allows you to temporarily restore the anatomy of the uterus so that the woman can carry the baby and give birth to it. But this effect is temporary and relapses of the growth of nodes are quite high - up to 10-15% per year. If you do not plan to give birth or you have symptomatic uterine myoma, then it is better to choose UAE. Such a procedure with a probability of up to 96-98% will be able to remove all the symptoms of uterine fibroids, that is, directly improve the woman's quality of life. The likelihood of relapse is low, it is only 2% over the entire observation period. And most often the problems are associated with the restoration of blood flow, that is, they can be easily solved by an additional procedure. UAE can permanently solve the problem of uterine fibroids. In this case, the woman avoids anesthesia, intracavitary surgery. And with laparoscopic operations, complications appear even more often than with conventional, laparotomic ones. And a long operation under anesthesia will be accompanied by blood loss and relapses. Is this the best option for eliminating heavy menstruation or feeling of pressure on the bladder? After all, you can simply carry out embolization of the uterine arteries.

There is fibroids - you can not visit the bathhouse and sunbathe. Women with this diagnosis are not prohibited from going to baths, saunas, sunbathing, or taking massage. There is no scientific evidence of the effect of these procedures on the growth and development of fibroid nodes. There is simply no connection between the sauna and the growth of formations in the uterine cavity, reflections on this topic are extremely speculative. This does not mean that you can sit for hours on end in the sun or sit in the sauna. Just the presence of such a disease does not force you to make strong restrictions on your lifestyle. One must rationally limit oneself, observing moderation and not overusing pleasures.

If fibroids are present, then it will never be possible to give birth. Myoma of the uterus is rare, when in itself is the cause of infertility. However, this condition can interfere with a successful pregnancy. So before undergoing fertilization, it is better, according to some experts, to remove the myomatous nodes. But the course of pregnancy can be influenced by those formations that grow inside the uterine cavity or deform it. True, not all nodes are potentially dangerous, some are also small or grow outside. First, you need to correctly assess the importance of the formations for pregnancy and understand that it is more risky to carry a child with fibroids or with scars on the uterus as traces from the removal of nodes. Recently, more and more women are deciding to bear a child with myomatous nodes. Recently, reproductive specialists have achieved good results with IVF fertilization, even with such a violation on the uterus. Modern medicine is not afraid of uterine fibroids in terms of bearing a child and his birth. Much more trouble should be expected from scars on the uterus after removing the nodes. They can be poorly sewn, which is fraught with uterine rupture, placental ingrowth and other complications.

An ultrasound can accurately determine the size of the fibroid. Assessment of the growth dynamics of myomatous nodes using ultrasound is considered insufficiently accurate. For objectivity, another method is used - MRI. Often, a patient with uterine fibroids is informed that her nodes have recently significantly increased in size, which was shown by ultrasound. Doctors strongly suggest performing an operation to avoid serious consequences. It must be understood that the knot by its shape is not a ball, not an oval. Its shape is irregular and similar to a potato tuber, not at all symmetrical and not perfect. Measurements of such a node in a two-dimensional plane can be carried out in different ways, while the readings can differ significantly. To objectively understand how much the nodes have grown, it is necessary not only to record measurements, but also to store photographs. This will make it possible to understand in which planes the measurements were made. In the case of ultrasound, this is rarely done. So MRI is much more objective. If a gynecologist scares a woman with the rapid growth of nodes, and she feels fine, then you should not panic. Firstly, this is not related to oncology, as mentioned earlier, and secondly, it is not known how accurately the nodes were measured. It is better to fix the dimensions, save the photo and repeat the study after 3-4 months, do an MRI as a duplicate procedure. After such a period, it will be possible to see a trend and have time to respond to growth without starting the problem.

Uterine fibroids can be treated with herbs, supplements, and other techniques. There are many products on the market that promise to get rid of uterine fibroids. These are epigalate, indinol, herbs, leeches, upland uterus herb, bioresonance therapy. The first two remedies cannot be considered drugs in general, these biologically active additives cannot, in their essence, have a therapeutic effect on the body. They are engaged in replenishing the supply of vitamins and minerals. So it is not worth wasting time and money trying to heal with these funds. A similar situation is with the boron uterus, even a certain brush is proposed for the treatment of fibroids. Myomatous nodes are composed of fibrous and muscle fibers, like dry and sinewy meat. Outgrowths grow from the wall of the uterus, being all the same muscles. In their structure, the knots resemble regular meat. You can't just remove a piece of meat from the meat with pills, leeches or decoctions. You can either cut it off, or deprive it of the blood supply so that the growth itself dries up. Such a naturalistic picture makes it possible to understand what the disease really is and how applicable certain methods are to it.

Fibroid treatment should be started with dyufaston. Duphaston is even contraindicated in this case, as the only method of treatment. Nevertheless, women with such a diagnosis continue to prescribe this remedy. But the second generation of drugs that reduce uterine nodes has already entered the market. Their effect on the tissue of the nodes is completely different from that of dyufaston. Duphaston is almost completely identical to the natural hormone progesterone. It is one of the main factors stimulating the growth of myomatous nodes. It turns out that the appointment of dyufaston only enhances the growth of formations, and does not reduce them. The latest version of the drug to date selectively blocks progesterone receptors, preventing it from affecting cells. So the nodes stop growing and shrink. But this effect is reversible, because the drug cannot be taken for a long time. As a result, dyufaston does not cure uterine fibroids, but only grows nodes. If the doctor believes that he can solve the problem with such a means, the specialist must be changed. Duphaston is acceptable when it is necessary to induce menstruation.
